Acrobats
Birdbath
21 x 21 x 22.5"
In looking at this interplay of forms the viewer comes to recognize a family doing handstands, splits, and a body press, all to lift a massive bath, a Herculean task in service to the weightless ones who arrive in a flit and depart refreshed. As acrobats they make an elegant architecture of themselves, all done in a spirit of play and generosity.
But there is something else. Oddly shaped block-like puzzle parts held together, each by the other, fitted and locked - an exotic plant twining upward bearing its fruit like ornament. Both puzzle and growing plant are suggested by the same forms that suggest the acrobats. In all turned to metaphor as I worked (three metaphors, one reality). Community, all the while, is the thing I had wanted. |
